Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) outbreak in Jigawa State has attacked about 500 people killing about 100.

The disease which attacked five local governments in the state is ravaging rural areas. The areas attacked are from the same location in the state, through one of them is from a different area.

The affected councils are Kaugama Jahun, Miga, Kafin Hausa, Ango and Malam Madori local governments. As at the time of filing this report, 17 people died in Sabon-Garin, Takanebo village, while 10 died in Dakaiyawa village all in Kaugama local government.

Also, another five persons from Yalleman have been confirmed dead by the local authorities in the area.

Councils in state have not been getting their federal allocated revenue as they are trapped in the States Joint Account.

Meanwhile, the state's secretary of primary health care agency Mustapha Mohammed has confirmed the incident though did not authenticate the number of people claimed to have died from the disease.

Also, the commissioner of health, Alhaji Mohammed Muktar could not be reached to give a statement on the matter, but an official of the ministry who spoke on confidence said, right now it is difficult to say how many have actually died as the disease is still on, that is, reports from various affected areas are still coming.

When THISDAY visited the Jigawa State World Health Organisation office to get its response on the matter, non of the principal officers was around as they were said to have left for an official assignment.
